The fifteenth birthday of a girl holds social and religious significance and is celebrated with great pomp and show in the Latin tradition. It is believed that when a girl turns fifteen years of age she becomes mature and enters womanhood. Hence the fifteenth birthday is celebrated with great zeal and  enthusiasm. The girl is formally introduced to the society for the first time to take on a completely different role from now on.
